February Fun

February has been a busy month, but it has brought some exciting news. Since Devin has started school we only get about an hour with each other each day during the week. He has school during the day and works at night and I work during the day, so we just have conflicting schedules. Since Valentine's Day fell on a Thursday we had little time to celebrate our first Valentine's Day as a married couple together. I wanted the day to be a little special even though we could not do much together that day, so I got up early and made heart shaped pancakes. I also gave Devin a card that he read at school.

Don't worry Devin did not forget about me. When I got home from substitute teaching, Devin told me there was a surprise for me. I did not see anything when I walked in the door so I was confused, but there was something in the bedroom. I always tell Devin I want a big fluffy dog, so that is what he got me. Okay, it was not a real dog, but he was still really cute.

February also brought me the opportunity to have a job interview for a Social Studies position at a new charter school that will open next fall. I was so excited because the charter school will be project based and I feel that this type of curriculum really aligns with my educational philosophy. After two and a half weeks of waiting for a reply I finally heard back. They had a few more questions for me and after answering their questions, I was offered the job. I am so excited to say that I will be a Social Studies teacher starting next fall. I will most likely have several grades, but I will do my best to provide them with the best education.

Christmas

This was our first Christmas as a married couple! This year we decided to go out and cut down our own Christmas tree. Okay, we did not trek through the woods to find a tree, but we did track down a tree farm and the nice owner cut down the tree of our choice.
Devin did a great job at tying the tree to the car. So,when the tree was outside it looked like it would fit perfectly into our living room, but I guess it must have grown going through the door because it definitely got larger when it was inside. We rearranged the furniture and found a spot in the corner. There was not a lot of room to get around the tree to the coach, but we figured it was just for a month.
We put the lights on and decorated the tree together. It looked so pretty. It will be nice to collect new ornaments each year so we can fill up or tree.
Devin was able to get a few days off of work, so we headed down to Carson City to spend the holiday with his parents. It was a short trip but it was nice to get away for a few days and spend time with family. On the way back a snow storm hit and the usual 10 hour drive turned into a 15 hour drive, but we made it safe. Overall, it was a wonderful 1st Christmas together.
